2024-2025 UT Southwestern (UTSW)

AFAIK, there will be WL movement as people who are currently holding seats decline their offer for other schools. The whole point of TMDSAS match is to get in-state people down to their top choice to fill as many seats as possible. Not sure how it would work for OOS people other than the legislature requires ~90% IS. I'd imagine then that IS people who drop off will be filled by IS people on WL, opposite for OOS.

Are there any more people who matched without any prematches??

If you haven’t received an email stating that you are WL is that a soft R or do we hear later in the week?

I'm waiting to hear about a WL too... last year WL offers weren't sent out until 10 days after the match🫣
Yep, matched elsewhere last year and didn't hear about a waitlist from UTSW for about 10 days.

Didn't come off the waitlist for another 8 or so weeks after that (about 2 weeks before the deadline, if you had another acceptance).

is there a groupme?
we made our groupme at MS0 weekend iirc so I'd standby for then. For now, I'd ask to join the c/o 2029 Facebook page (it's worth making an account if you don't have one). It's good for general info/questions you have and finding a potential roommate if you're in the market for one.

so quick question, my gpa when i applied and got accepted to utsw was like a 3.9. my last semester was a bit tough and that term ended with like 3 Bs (one of which was a science class) and 2 As (another one of these As was a science class). I think my TMDSAS gpa for this term would be a 3.4 making my total cumulative gpa a 3.85 and sgpa a 3.86

Should i be worried?

absolutely no worries. when i applied 2 years ago I had a discrepancy in my transcript for the pre-reqs. Long story short, they didnt care since i was already accepted

Do you have to fill out FAFSA to be eligible for scholarships?
For most, if not all, of the instution-affiliated ones, I believe you do have to fill out the FAFSA. Here's the scholarship page on the financial aid website where you might be able to find more info.

Our financial aid office has some really incredible staff who will be able to answer your questions. Just reach out via email or phone and they'll get back to you as soon as they can, just be patient as they are responsible for a lot of students.

same^^^
does everyone who interviewed and not matched go to waitlist or are they selective about who goes on the waitlist?

WL (alternate list, I’m assuming this is the same thing) email just now. Some useful info:
- LOI not expected, they said unless you withdraw they will assume you’d accept an offer.
- Update letters do not appear to be accepted, the email states: “There is nothing more you can do to alter, supplement, or improve your application”
- acceptance Offers can go out until June

+1 IS WL! Also curious if the WL is selective or sent to all interviewed applicants

If I am planning on enrolling at a Texas school as an OOS applicant, will I not be able to get off other Texas waitlists after May 15th? Or does that rule only apply to Texas residents?

Here is the exact wording from the TMDSAS Guide:
After 5:00 p.m. CST on May 15, no medical school in Texas may offer a position to a Texas resident applicant already accepted by another medical school in Texas.  This is the result of an agreement among Baylor College of Medicine, John Sealy School of Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, McGovern Medical School at UT Health Houston, Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Texas A&M College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at El Paso, Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine at Lubbock, Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine, University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, The University of Texas at Tyler Medical School.

Thank you! The waitlist email didn’t specify Texas resident so I wanted to clarify.

Hey y'all, for everyone who didn't get good news recently -- I'm sorry. I know how much it sucks to deal with rejection throughout the cycle. I wish we didn't have to go through this, and it's undeniable that every year perfectly qualified (and even very impressive) candidates don't get accepted. Please don't think it's a reflection of your worth as a person or your ability to be a great doctor someday.

As someone who went through this last year, I know UTSW is a lot of people's dream school, but 1. you do not have to go to UTSW to be a great doctor. 2. There's no bad school in Texas, and regardless of where you go, it'll be up to you to put in the work to achieve what you want and keep being a great doctor. 3. If you don't go into medicine, that is okay. Seriously. It is okay. This is a life-long dream for a lot of people, but the reality is that it is a very, very hard career and it isn't for everyone (even if you think it is now, that can always change). 4. And of course there is always a chance for waitlist movement. Myself and several of my classmates got off the waitlist, before and after May 15th (and if you do get that offer, reach out to me, I'd love to share my insights!).

Personally, I don't think you can ever achieve happiness in life solely by having the job you want or any other external factors, it will always come from within. I also recognize that many of us simply have no idea what else we would do, but that doesn't mean you can't quit the rat race. If you do, it will be okay. You and your health are more important than any job, in medicine or otherwise.

Regardless, I hope everything works out well for all of y'all. Best of luck!

There has been one MSTP A reported on cycletrack today... Is the waitlist movement already starting?

Hi! Does anyone know the dress code for MS0 weekend?
Business professional - if you aren't wearing your best suit and tie, the deans will immediately rescind your A and send you packing

Jk, unless they explicitly tell you, casual is fine. Weather is looking like it is going to be pretty nice next week, but I would still recommend maybe having a light jacket with you b/c it can get super cold in the lecture halls (my theory is so that people don't fall asleep, lol)

Hello! I am in the process of getting my immunization records ready to be submitted and was wondering if UTSW also needed a recent physical pre-enrollment?

Not last year, doubt it for this year

Yea I’m personally considering this a soft R as a OOS. Last year it looked like there was not much if any waitlist movement.
OOS people can hold their admissions until May 1st if they have more than one, even in Texas. You have a shot late April or early May and if that doesn't materialize, then most likely done. They can only SWAP one OOS with another and not an IS opening.

People can also drop out of WL knowing it is a longshot which can make OOS waitlist shorter.
