Invitation Letter

It is with great pleasure that the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center invites you to The National MD/PhD Conference, which will be held at the Keystone Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado. This annual meeting brings together bright young MD/PhD students and outstanding senior researchers to share ideas and to consider the evolving role of the physician-scientist.

As in the past, we have distinguished speakers from a variety of disciplines. These featured lectures will address topics in both basic science and translational research. In addition, the student oral presentations and student poster sessions will ensure that a wide spectrum of topics are discussed including, but not limited to, immunology, tumor biology, biochemistry, microbiology, neuroscience, and developmental biology. A career panel session will be held where MD/PhDs at various stages of their careers will be available to discuss their experiences. Finally, we have added diverse breakout groups to allow like-minded students to discuss career development*, the social sciences and humanities*, community outreach, minorities, incoming students, and MD/PhD student mental health concerns.

As always, the Conference provides free time to enjoy the awesome surroundings. Keystone is in the heart of Summit County, Colorado. The nearby towns of Dillon, Silverthorne, and Breckenridge allow for shopping, exploration and social gatherings after hours. Hiking, mountain biking, rafting and other outdoor activities are also conveniently close. Our hosts at Keystone Resorts will provide organized opportunities and a number of informal trips will be lead by our students.

It is our hope that you will accept our invitation and join us July 7-9th, 2006 for The 21st Annual National M.D./Ph.D. Student Conference at Keystone, Colorado. (Abstract dealine: May 15th. Registration deadline: June 1st)

Sincerely,
The 2006 Organizing Committee

Just wanted to congratulate the Oral Presentation, Diversity Award, and Melvin Denis Memorial Award winners for 2006! (Acceptance e-mails are being sent out today) The selection was intensely competitive for Oral Presentation Honors as usual and I'm confident everyone will be impressed with their accomplishments. Also, we had a record number of Diversity Award applicants this year-- Check the website soon to find out more about the upcoming talks.

FYI: The list of who is going when for poster presentations has been posted on the website under the "Schedule" tab. We are still accepting abstracts through tomorrow so there may be some changes. If Bebo has time he might add the abstract titles but he's trying not to get scooped & he gets cranky when he's not pipetting.

Feel free to make suggestions about what to add to the website. We'll do our best to make it happen.

This festival will be going on July 8th and 9th at Keystone as well if anyone wants to check it out during the breaks.

Savvy Blues stretches its acoustic roots through the Rocky Mountains. A lavish art show, tasty dishes, ice cold brews and a array of wines trim the plaza while veteran guitarists with a knack for mixing funky rhythms, sultry measures, and wicked chord patterns front our stellar event. Extreme fun and inflatable bounce houses guzzle your kids in the popular, Energy Alley.

Bebo has been very busy updating the website and has updated what activities will be available. Make sure to check it out so you know what to bring. For instance, I'll be leading a horseback riding trip from 11:45-12:45 on Sunday ($35).

We also have the following small groups confirmed...

I'd like to thank everyone who came for helping make the 21st Annual National MD/PhD Student Conference one of the most successful in our long history in spite of the uncharacteristic rain! We had the largest turnout ever with 280 registered attendees, great talks, great posters, great people and the World Cup! Check the website for pictures later.
