Hi everyone. My stats are 28 and 3.8. I'm a California resident currently attending UCLA. Where should I apply where I have a good shot of getting in? Thanks!

Your in a similar position as me. I got a 3.85 and a 30. I just picked my state school ( yeah only one for me) and then looked at other schools that seemed to be in my range. My pre-med committee has this nice stats book that tells applications and acceptances to all the med schools according to my school ( hmm, that was confusing). So then I could see how my fellow students faired at various places. I picked some schools that I had better than avg stats and I picked some that were above me. I ended up with 17 in all.

Since you are from Cali you have a wide variety of state schools, so start there and then find some private ones that you are also interested in. By the way I did a research internship at UCLA, so I felt I had to respond to your post. I loved it there. Best of luck.

Our state schools are a little different here. In many cases they are harder to get into than an out of state school. A 28/3.8 puts you at a long shot for the UC's and Stanford(although it is possible and it can happen and it has happened before but other things will have to stand out on your app in order to get into those schools with your numbers) The other cali schools USC and Loma Linda may also be difficult to get into with that mcat score.

I would suggest you apply to at least 25 schools with your stats. Definitely apply to all the calis, you never know what could happen. Then add another 15-20 out of state schools.

Wasn't trying to compare my state school to yours, I agree yours are much tougher to get into. I was just saying that in general apply to your state schools- you never know. Then go from there.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help.

Other state schools are hard to get into if you are not from that state-- definitely consider Tufts, BU, Jefferson, Drexel, Albany, NYMC, and GW. They routinely accept people with 28- 29 MCATS.

Good luck!!
