Funny how one good MCAT makes up for years of marginal GPA, while one bad MCAT will kill years of superb GPA.

What is this "marginal gpa" and "slacking" stuff? A 3.3 gpa is well above the average GPA at most schools.

I'd have to say its pretty marginal for matriculants to medical school.

You're.... marginal..........

Interesting assertion on average GPA at most schools. I've come up with two scenarios:

If I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume that you mean a 3.3 is above average at most undergraduate schools. That is quite possible.

If I'm not giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'll point out that not only are you mistaken, but also that if you'd taken a few moments to browse the earlier posts in this very thread you?d have been better informed. As of 2003, the average medical school matriculant GPA is a 3.62. The link was also provided in the earlier post so that you could verify the information for yourself.

Here it is again: MCAT scores and GPAs for Applicants and Matriculants, 1992-2003

I know that people love to throw in their own opinions on what is and isn't a "good" application. And I'm not trying to rub it in to anyone with a 3.3ish GPA that its "below average"... But when they are readily available, it is nice to work with some actual facts and stastics once in a while! 🙂

I can't lend any additional input on whether or not Pinkertinkle is indeed marginal, but I can point out that when it comes to his GPA assessment, he is statistically correct. 😛

I should have added more:

I have a M.S. in org. chem. and some post-bacc courses
GPA from those: 3.62.

Which raises another question:
Does post-bacc or grad GPA matter? After all, the only numbers that are incorporated into a school's stats are the undergrad. GPA and MCAT.

Thoughts?

OP, yes, they will definitely be really pleased to see your postbacc GPA. I think that will be weighted really highly. It's ridiculous to think that undergrad GPA can never be escaped ... c'mon, you have a masters in organic chemistry. With a 3.62 postbacc GPA. Yes, medical schools will be impressed by this. I think you have nothing to worry about. You have as good a shot as any of the other gunners here.

Aghh, Peterock hounds me like an antibody that's found its epitope.

No, no -- none of that. It's still summer for some of us.
