Hi SDN,

My colleague recently gave me his AMCAS application to proofread. I would greatly appreciate the opinion of the community. My current assessment is that his breadth and depth of clinical activities may be lacking.

Stats: 3.4/33

Clinical Activities:
Athletic trainer (helps athletes rehab): 200 hours
Orthopaedic surgeon shadowing: 1 day
Hospital volunteer in the surgical care unit: 80 hours

Research:
1 year - no publications, but is in the process of co-authoring one (3rd). 5th Co-author on an abstract.

Leadership:
Co-director of a music performance club in college (4 years).
Coached high school kids in a sport while in college for a year.

As a 3.4 Ca applicant with weak ECs your colleague is in trouble for MD schools. Strongly suggest a gap year followed by a DO-focused application.
