hey! I just finished my entirely online freshman year with a 3.4. Gen chem was hard for me on zoom and I’m definitely disappointed but hoping for a better year. Any tips for in-person courses/ orgo?

For orgo, go through the problems in organic chemistry as a second language by David Klein, during the summer. That book is amazing.

I was one of the weird bio majors who loved ochem and did very well in it so here's my advice. This is a class that you want to put 100% effort into from the beginning. Everything build off of each other and you do not want to fall behind.

Understand the concepts of why things happen don't just memorize. There's an infinite amount of problems the prof can come up with, if you strictly memorize you'll be in for a rough time.

Get practice questions from your prof and do them as well as the ones from the book.

I took ochem 2 lecture and lab while working and searching for an apartment and studied less than 10 hours a week and got an A in both with a prof who's exams averaged in the 50s. If you do this stuff you should be fine.

I struggled a lot with gen chem and did SO MUCH better in organic chemistry. I agree with Proudfather94. Doing problems will help you. Do not do the same problem over and over again. You will need to know how to apply the concepts to various problems to succeed. If you are more of a visual/spatial person, I think you will do well!
