I have yet to submit my AMCAS primaries (was going to submit either by tonight or tomorrow), but am now wondering if I even have a chance if I apply this cycle.
  1. cGPA: 3.62 and sGPA: 3.56
  2. 500 (125/125/124/126)
  3. NJ
  4. Black male
  5. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer):
    1. Volunteer: close to 1500 hours volunteer EMT dating back to high school (since college, probably about 150 hours), ~300 hours volunteering in a hospital
    2. Non-Volunteer: around 350 hours scribing in a few different outpatient IM specialties
  6. Research experience and productivity:
    1. About 800 hours working in a lab, 250 hours volunteering in another lab but no pubs/presentations to show
  7. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
    1. 30 hours shadowing EM (I figured scribing would makeup for the rest of my "shadowing" hours)
  8. Non-clinical volunteering
    1. 150 hours spent developing/completing an alternative spring break trip focused on the opioid crisis, 60 hours as a writing tutor for a middle school, 75 hours as a tutor/mentor in an elementary school, a little over 1000 hours involved in school's community service club (been in a leadership position as a peer mentor for the past 2 years as well)
  9. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
    1. On E-board for a few clubs, paid peer tutor for a couple of courses (120 hours), former TA for a General Chemistry section (100 hours), heavily involved in MAPS/SNMA at my school
  10. Relevant honors or awards
    1. Not really.
  11. Anything else not listed you think might be important
I had a school list before my MCAT score, but now I am totally lost. I guess if I were to apply with this score, my list would look something like this:

NJ state schools
Seton Hall
HBCU schools + UCLA/Charles Drew
Rush
Quinnipiac
Oakland UWB
Miami
Emory
Temple
Loyola
Wayne
Vermont
Wright State

I have no idea which DO schools I should apply to (the only ones I really know anything about are NYIT, UNE, and Rowan).

Are there any suggestions for other schools to include? Any DO schools except for the three I listed above? Or should I even bother applying this cycle?

Thank you in advance for your opinions/help!

You could add these MD schools to your application:
New York Medical College
Drexel
Jefferson
George Washington
NOVA MD
TCU-UNT
Creighton
St. Louis
Medical College Wisconsin
For DO schools I suggest these:
PCOM (all schools)
VCOM (all schools except Monroe)
CUSOM
LECOM (all schools)
AZCOM
UIWSOM
ACOM
MU-COM
KCU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
DMU-COM

Thank you so much for this list! I wasn't expecting this many schools, I assumed that my MCAT score knocked out any chance I had. I'll certainly look more into these DO schools.

Can I ask if this means you think it may be worth it for me to apply this cycle? In all other aspects of my application I feel prepared.

You are fine to apply this month and submit all your secondaries by August.

Great, thank you so much Faha! I have one last question: I was considering an MCAT retake in early September which would give me about 8 weeks to prepare. Do you think receiving a better score that late in the cycle could make a difference in my application, or would I be best just applying with the score I have? I've never scored this low on any of my AAMC FLs so this exam really felt like a fluke to me.

A higher MCAT score would increase your chances for interviews but do not retake unless your practice scores are consistently over 505.

Thank you so much for your help in creating my list @Faha , I received a few interview invites and will be matriculating into one of my top choice schools!
