I'm applying this upcoming cycle so please help me narrow down my school list!

    background & stats:
    -3.68 cGPA 3.66 sGPA
-MCAT 511 (128/124/130/129) (will the low CARS really hurt my chances?)
    -Asian
    -finished high school in Asia
    -Green Card holder
    -CA resident
    -BS from a good UC
-LORs from research, clinical experience, study abroad instructor, etc.
    -100+ hrs of clinically related experiences (clinic-volunteering & physician-shadowing)
-400+ hrs of research experiences (but no posters or publications)
-120+ hrs of physics tutoring experience (hired by school)
-studied abroad for a short period
-messed up my gpa early junior year, but has an upward trend after that

I wanted to do MDs so haven't considered DOs. I want to apply to 15-25 schools but I'm open to suggestions. Please help with in-state, religious, or other preferences that I might be aware of. I prefer west coast or urban areas but will take anything if I get in. Thanks!

You have many state public schools on your list that accept few non residents with no connection to the state .For example, U Washington accepts less than 1% of applicants who are not from states in the Northwest. Here is a more realistic list:
      Vermont
      Quinnipiac
      Tufts
      Albany
      New York Medical College
      Seton Hall
      Penn State
      Drexel
      Temple
      Jefferson
      George Washington
      Eastern Virginia
      Virginia Commonwealth
      West Virginia
      Wake Forest
      NOVA MD
      Oakland Beaumont
      Western Michigan
      Wayne State
      Medical College Wisconsin
      Rosalind Franklin
      Tulane
      California University
      Loma Linda
      Kaiser (when it opens)
      UC Davis
      UC Irvine
      UC Riverside
Your clinical volunteering and shadowing hours are low and will limit your chances for interviews. In case you need to reapply next year, in the coming year accumulate enough shadowing hours to reach 50 and enough clinical volunteering hours to exceed 200. More non clinical activities would also help.

How about Meharry, U. of Texas, and Morehouse?
I am wondering if I put enough "safe" schools on the list. If not, can you recommend a few?

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you have any advice on getting shadowing opportunities?

Another way to get shadowing experience is to literally just email a physician that works near you and ask if the have time in their busy schedule to show you what the do on a daily basis. Doing this, I shadowed a cardio-thoracic surgeon(16hrs), Pediatric ER Physician (16hrs), Neurologist(16hrs), Pediatric Surgeon (16hrs), and a Neurosurgeon (220hrs - helped write a clinical research paper and got published). If after 3 days the physician doesn't reply after, I would email a different physician. Rinse and repeat.

Meharry and Morehouse are both Historically Black Colleges that have very specific missions in mind. Texas is not an OOS friendly state for med school.

Meharry and Morehouse mainly accept applicants from the African American community. Texas accepts few non residents. The schools I listed are where your best chances are.
