Hi, I made a tentative list of schools I might want to apply to but I'm open to any suggestions to edit it. It's mostly based on my GPA/MCAT and ORM status.
  • 3.77 cGPA, 3.79 sGPA (U shaped trend)
  • MCAT: 515
  • ORM, traditional California applicant
  • Neuroscience major, business minor
  • Research: 1700 hours
    • I worked at 2 different labs
    • Worked on my own project for a while and made a couple of presentations about my findings
    • no publications
  • Clinical volunteering: 500 hours
    • 200 of these 500hrs were done in high school
    • Volunteer at two different hospitals. Lots of patient interaction and physician shadowing
    • rotated through multiple departments within hospital
  • Nonclinical volunteering:
    • 250 hrs direct service in underserved communities (domestic and international)
    • additional 200hrs planning/ organizing service and hosting educational workshops for other volunteers
  • Clinical employment: 150hrs
    • briefly worked as Medical Assistant/ Scribe
  • Shadowing: 30 hours
    • 30hrs directly shadowing a single MD
    • Hoping to shadow another doctor before I apply
  • Leadership/ other:

I'll let other people with better resources give you suggestions for your list.

You have to boost that physician shadowing and include more primary care/family medicine/geriatrics exposure. That said, where were you placed as a scribe since a lot of times I can consider it shadowing (but not sure of my other admissions peers).

Leadership hours? I presume your listing of the non-profit is important to you and is germane given your business minor. In describing that activity, make sure you give numbers regarding how much you received to start the non-profit and how much in any fundraising you succeed to get.

Connecticut and Rutgers accept few non residents with no connections to the state
You could add these schools:
Albany
Seton Hall
George Washington
Hofstra
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
TCU UNT

Was your nonprofit an actual nonprofit or a club?

I worked at a primary care clinic that focused on preventative med. I talked to the patients and docs all the time but didn't follow them around or anything. It was more MA work than scribe work for the most part.

Both? It was a club but it was also a registered nonprofit. Mostly college students but some community members also joined in
