Besides the sparse clinical experience, I'm not seeing any nonmedical community service. Leadership and teaching are other categories on the application that it's good to fill. Your research and shadowing are above average. Hopefully the briefer shadowing you didn't specify includes a primary care doc.Hello,
I am a junior applying this summer wondering my chances for MD programs including UMich, Virginia, and Case Western
I have the one google spreadsheet but am wondering about my ECs
Those GPAs should improve and I am at a state school
The MCAT was 13P 12B 9V which I was not happy with (High 30s and 40s on AAMCs ). I took it in August 2011
I plan on applying this summer.
ECs:
Honor societies, Dean's List every term Top 10% of class
Shadowing in the ER~100hrs (other shadowing experiences but were just one day)
Volunteering in Short Stay and Intermediate Care Unit ~50 hours (However there was a gap as my mother fractured her leg and I had to stay and take care of her, as in Started Winter 2011 stopped mid summer and resumed Jan 2012)
Research Been in the same lab since Fall 2010 and had a HHMI fellowship during last summer. Not published yet but we submitted 3 articles including 1 to Science so might have those
Clubs Quiz Bowl for 3 years which takes up a fair amount of time 2 practices of 2 hours and hours studying and tournaments most weekends
I would appreciate any advice regarding whether this is competitive or not. Thank you
