Hi everyone,
I submitted my AMCAS for verification on Saturday with only one school listed because I was waiting for my MCAT results. I was expecting ~515 so I was absolutely floored by my 523! (Thanks in no short part to the threads on SDN <3)
Obviously, my potential school list has opened up significantly so I wanted to get some input from you guys and some of the mods about where I stack up. Here's my AMCAS app in a nutshell:
Asian Male, MA resident but go to school in IL
Rising senior, US News top 12 undergraduate
3.92 cGPA, 3.89sGPA (Neuroscience major, Global Health Minor)
523 MCAT (130, 131, 130, 132)
Personal statement: I didn't save the world but it feels like an authentic representation of my motivations and goals
LoR: can't really comment on specifics
Research:
2 summers and winter breaks with epidemiology study team (380 hrs)
1 publication (co-author, Journal of Pediatrics)
Clinical volunteering:
Emergency room volunteer (104 hrs)
Volunteer at community health center in low-income Hispanic neighborhood (110 hrs projected June, 2018)
Shadowing:
HIV/AIDS doc at large county hospital (12 hrs)
NICU team at large private hospital (25 hrs)
Various docs at CHC where I volunteered (10 hrs)
Non-clinical volunteering:
Relay for Life- Team Captain (75 hrs total) *raised $1100 for ACS
Camp counselor for children with special needs (75 hrs)
Teaching/tutoring:
Instructor for science/engineering camp (210 hrs)
Peer academic coach (study skills, general guidance) (100 hrs projected June, 2018)
Paid employment:
Working 10 hrs/week at the library (750 hrs projected June, 2018)
Extracurriculars:
Columnist for school newspaper (220 hrs projected June, 2018)
Undergraduate Chemistry Council- VP and community outreach chair (120 hrs projected June, 2018)
Fraternity- Philanthropy Committee and Athletic Director (500 hrs)
Other leadership:
Social justice advocacy fellow (50 hrs)
Hobbies:
Singing in a cover band that puts on a small performance after every finals week (60 hrs projected June, 2018)
Schools already applied to:
Harvard (originally as a dream/joke but this may not have been a waste of money after all)
Schools considering:
Northwestern
UChicago
Stanford
Columbia
Hopkins
Penn
Duke
Vandy
UCSF
UCSD (dad moved there for work, mom will be joining him after a year)
UCLA
USC-Keck

Cornell
BU

If anyone has any additional suggestions for schools to add or schools to remove (ie. low yield for out of state), please let me know!
@Goro @gonnif @WedgeDawg @LizzyM @ anyone else who wants to chime in
Thanks y'all for helping me get this far!
