Hi everyone,
3 more days til my DAT (jan 18th)! Im trying not to get too overwhemled by this test, I'd like to kind of get a feel for how hard the PAT is since everyone knows its harder than any prep materials out there. WHich section do you feel its significantly harder than the practice materials? I heard angle is difficult to distinguist, how about keyhole, hole-punch, end/top view or paper folding? And cube counting, how much harder can it get? Thanks in advance.

The hardest part of the DAT was soap carving. The PAT just requires a lot of getting used to...you should answer question type systematically. Good luck on your test. Just try to relax and have fun.

Yup. Soap Carving is a 30min stress test where they give you a cylindrical piece of soap and you have you replicate the dimensions from a drawing with a soap carving knife. It's only available on the Canadian DAT. They score you on how flat your surfaces are, accuracy of dimensions, degree deviation of angles. A lot of canadians find this part of the exam the most difficult because you have to cut precise angles under stess. I'm just really glad I have good manual dexterity. 🙂 The Canadian DAT doesn't have the math section though.

The hardest part of the PAT for me was the top/end/front views and the keyhole. Honestly, the hardest part about it was that the computer drawings looked like my 2-year old drew them...it was ridiculous! The lines were blurry and undistinguishable. I think the ADEA should contract the TopScore guys to do the PAT section for them. I was getting 22/23 on the PAT for the TopScore tests but only squeaked by with an 18 on the real thing.....PAT= P retty A ggravating T est!!

hey mary,

Good luck. What i did during the tutorial session in the beginning I made a square piece of paper and made dots on it to represent the hole punching section.

write all the equations you remember and any obscure fact you might forget.
