Hey, I saw the 29ers thread and though it would rock if we had one of our own.

I was happy to break the 20's, but had definitely aimed higher. What did you all think?

What are our chances???

Check out my MD App profile link!

HAHA im thrilled to be a member of the 30 club but dont get too pumped up...I got waitlisted 3 times for the entering class of 2006 and now am starting all over...

I think there's a typo on your mdapps, it says you're caucasian

I'm from right outside Detroit.

Haha ,thanks for pointing that one out.

It's Friday afternoon, I'm feeling a little crazy anyway.

All power to the "30" club!! 10 10 10 here (has a nice zing to it). Anyone else feel relieved to have broken the magic number, yet still insecure in seeing all these ridiculous MCAT averages of top schools? Well then join the club!

I got a 30 O

V 11
P 11
B 8 (was getting 12's in practice tests)

I finally decided today that I'm going to retake in August. I've been told that I'll be competitive at my state school, but I don't want to take any chances.

I have an overall 3.4 GPA in chem E, and an MS in chem E...but still. I'm 33 now and don't want to wait another year.

Retake with a 30 is a bit risky. If you think you can improve then go for it. But personally, I wouldn't.

I wouldn't take it again, like you said, you are old and time is of the essence. If you take it in August, then you are at a greater disadvantage that you were applying early with a 30. Unless you submit your AMCAS with the April score and then send updates to other schools, but they'll still evaluate you based on your April score.

Ha Ha. I didn't say I was old, but I guess I am.

Thanks for the advice. Now I'm back to being undecided. I'll apply early with my April score regardless. In fact, I'm wondering if January 27, 2007 CBT would be on time to update in case primaries/secondaries don't go too well and/or all I get is waitlists.

30N

9 PS
10 VB
11 BS

I am definitely not going to take again - too risky!

I got a 30 too! 30Q--11PS, 10VR, 9BS. Before I got my scores, I had this huge fear that I would get a 29 or 28 or something, but fortunately that didn't happen.

30 O (12V, 10B, 8P). Don't want to retake, but worried about the 8 nonetheless.

where you guys thinking of applying

Go click the link for my MD app page....my schools are all listed.

I am still a resident of MI, although I've been in AZ 3 years, so therefore applying to all 3 schools there.

Is 30 really the "magic number". Do we not have to worry as long as our gpa is good? Talk amongst yourselves

30 P - August '05

PS = 10
VS = 9
BS = 11

I could have done better on the verbal section probably, but I got to a passage about racecars, lost my concentration, zoned out and said "the hell with it" and put my head down for the last 10 minutes.

I had the exact same scores for each section 🙂

sigh. i wish writing scores counted more... 10/10/10/R

Yep, I'm an alumni of the club-- I had a 10/10/10/P. My gpa was kind of low (3.4), but I had 4 papers out and only applied MD/PhD, and had good personal statement and letters, so everything worked out for me. I applied to a range, and eventually turned down like 5 interviews.

So my advice to the 30 crowd is to apply to a range-- your state schools, some "long shots" (you never know!), and some schools with numbers lower than yours. Just..don't apply to 24 schools like I did. That was way too much!

So....I am sort of new to this forum, and before I came in here, I was pretty OK with my 30.
Is it just me, or does it seem like most people who come in here are here to either
a) Make sure everyone knows about their 38S or....
b) Complain, and ask is they are really going to in with a 38S?

I am beginning to feel not so confident, although I really don't want to retake.

EEK!

yeah, it will drive you crazy. luckily my mother has always and will always believe that EVERYONE on the internet lies about everything. so she keeps telling me they're all lying and I choose to believe her 🙂 But seriously, SDN can depress you and you need to step away when it does b/c perfectly normal human beings get into med school everyday and a 30 IS a really good score anyway. my point is: i feel you.

I'm 30p (10V 9PS 11BS) I got into

St Louis
NYMC
Albany
Wait listed at OHSU (96)

I'm 30R (10 10 10)

I got into
UMN
LSU-NO
Tulane
Waitlisted at Chapel Hill and RMC

Anyone notice a trend that those with mid-30's scores tend to low writing samples, and those at the high 20's and high 30's have awesome writing samples? Not a scientific analysis or anything, but just my observation.

30Q (12P, 10V, 8B)

Do I need to retake (on account of the low bio score)?
I had a similar score last year (11B, 11V, 8P) and I had 3 acceptances (2 of them state schools). The 8 didn't really come up since I had a 30 overall. If your GPA is solid, I wouldn't retake.

Hey- applied last cycle with a 30 X2! I was determined to re-rake, said I would on my AMCAS, and then planned a million other things to do for the summer, including an internship in a lab out of the country (not too smart, I know)! So, I was stuck with taking it again unless I wanted to tell all of the schools I changed my mind, and I got the exact smae score🙂 So, if you want to re-take, really give yourself all of your time to improve, other wise you can definitely still get in places with a 30! I was waitlisted at a lot of places, but so far I will be attending NYU in the fall, waiting on a few waitlists still. I'm definitely happy with the way things turned out despite the MCAT drama. If anyone wants to ask me stuff about applying/ retaking/ etc.... PM me🙂 Good luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

Heck yes! I'll join up

I think a 30 is a lovely score...considering the amount of prepartion (or lack thereof) I put in. 😛

I deleted my stats.

good luck applying all my fellow 30 MCAT peeps! 🙂

for real, SDN will depress you if you have a 30 (30 O here: 7v,11p,12b;4.0). It will make you feel that there is no way that you can get into a US medical school cause you didn't get the 41Q! AHHHHHH! I've tried to stay away from SDN since the scores came out, but for some reason I just can't shake her and the premed allure!

Most of the people I know got in the 20's, so I'm not gonna fret over a 30. No way I'm going through MCAT prep hell again. Just thinking about it from Jan-april made spring semester suck.

Good Job to all my 30 brethren

Wow accepted to UCSF with a 30. Thats nice! Do you have an MDApp profile?

I am new to this forum. I'm just so glad to find others in the 30 range. Reading SDN is both inspiring and depressing. I have to admit I am not okay with my 30P (11VR, 10PS, 9BS) in April '06. Looking at the averages for each school is pretty depressing when my gpa (3.2) sucks.

So I need some advice...In practice I was scoring better (31-33), should I retake it? I think it's risky too considering that I feel rusty already. I feel like my verbal should have been a better and well, my bio score is pretty much either 9/10, so that can't improve too much.

I am in the same boat, and I think I am going to retake. Good luck.
