Question 19

It is asking you to guess the observed dipole moment of HF. I agree that CL is less electronegative. However Cl has an extra electron layer and hence bigger than F. Dipole is charge X speparation distance. I don't understand how you could say for sure that HCl should have a smaller dipole than HF.

Compared to chlorine, fluorine is more electronegative, hence a greater dipole moment when it's bonded to H.
