3rd/4th year's--Do You Use Public Transportation?

Hey...

As a 3rd year, is it possible to rely on public transport to get to the hospital? Is it a pain? I'm thinking of getting rid of the car before 3rd year.

Completely depends on where you live. For example, I'm in LA, so not having a car isn't even an option. Some of my classmates have done away rotations in NYC and were able to survive using the subway.

So what happens if you do an elective away from your home state? Do people rent cars for an entire month? I plan to do an elective out of state for my 3rd year and I am wondering what I need to do about transportation.
