We've heard about these 4+2 programs for vascular, CT, and pediatrics.

Does anyone know what the chances are that those of us now in med school (MS II, especially 🙂 ) will have of being able to apply for these.

If there is any info on the web, please post--especially interested in peds.

As a first-year student, I too would be interested in more info on this topic. From what I have read of droliver's posts, it seems that they are a least a few years off and that it might be the case that residents at the time the programs launch may have the option of switching (applying) from (to) GS categorical residency to 4+2 style programs. Anyone heard anything else?

All of these new proposed training models are still a # of years from being implemented (with the exception of maybe CT, which has a head start on the accredidation process). I'm aware of no timetable for the pilot programs to start, but it seems at many of the meetings that it will not be too long. I was just speculating about in-house "guinea pigs" for the first groups, but I bet that's how its phased in

So if one were interested in a GS subspecialty in a few years (such as folks now in med school), it might be worth it to apply to places that currently have that fellowship (say, peds or CT), and ask during interviews if the in-house phase in is something they are planning on trying.

And keep an ear open in the meantime...
