Hello all, my adviser received a copy of the 45th edition of the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools.

There are major improvements most important is that the breakdown of total applicants to each dental school is more detailed.

It divides in-state and out of state for each school and the number that are interviewed and accepted!

Of course it has the stats of the entering class (DAT and GPAs).

Highest Academic average for the 2006 entering class : Harvard, 24.4
2nd-Highest " ": Columbia, 22.16
3rd-Highest " ": UCLA, 22

[I am not a vendor for ADEA!]

I bought it for my cycle, if you want to get it go to

There is no way harvard jumped 2.4 points in DAT average...

UCLA's is not that suprising, nor is Columbia's...they've both been near 22.

i'm assuming this info will eventually show up on predents?

Interesting that stats just seem to go up. Any idea how many total applicants there were last year based on this guide? :luck:

Yeah... are you kidding me with 24.4? A 24 is supposedly 99.5 percentile. If 12000 take the DAT each year, that means only 60 people in the WHOLE COUNTRY scored a 25+! Therefore, chances are half the Harvard class or more scored 25+ (I'm assuming they accepted some people with 22s and 23s). Perhaps 18-20 out of 60 went to Harvard alone. That is insane.

I mean, those percentiles may be off and more people scored over 24, but still... that's an impressive statistic.

mind putting the rest of the info? :D

Does anyone know what the average DAT for the Medical University of South Carolina was

I will post today around 4:30pm (when I finish an exam I have today) the answer to the above questions.

Hey! Can you please post the stats for the Texas schools? San Antonio, Baylor, and Houston... Thanks a lot!

Richard

So I'm assuming that this info is from the class that started last fall or is it fall '05? Could you give the averages for UNLV?

I just ordered the book, it's worth it to see the numbers, my pre-health office is too slow for me to just use thiers. I'll try and post some data when I get it.

If it is possible, can I see UNC, Case, NYU, and Louisville????

Just scan the pages and upload them if you can. I'd like to see VCU and MN.

Wow, most every school is 3.5-3.6 avg GPA. I was looking over at the ADA's website last night reading a report of economics and dental education, and in 1990 the avg. incoming student DAT was a 16.1!!!!

Actually a very interesting report if anyone cares to go through it, they cover dental faculty salaries and trends in dental education etc. the grade graphs are on pg. 123 of the pdf.

http://www.ada.org/prof/resources/topics/topics_economic_education.pdf

I ran through excel what collegeboy has posted so far to find the overall averages and standard deviations.

Averages:

19.5 AA
-SD: 0.96

18.36 PAT
-SD: 0.82

3.56 cGPA
-SD: 0.10

3.47 sGPA
-SD: 0.13

Maryland AA=20 PAT=18.7 GPA overall 3.5 SCI. GPA 3.4

How about Pitt, Stony Brook, Temple?

Thanks

Pitt AA=19.83 PAT=18.64 GPA overall 3.54 SCI. GPA 3.43

Stony Brook AA=21 PAT=19 GPA overall 3.71 SCI. GPA 3.72

Temple AA=18.8 PAT=18.7 GPA overall 3.33 SCI. GPA 3.19

Pacific AA=20.5 PAT=19.7 GPA overall 3.37 SCI. GPA 3.29

these stats are insane.

Stony Brook AA=21 PAT=19 GPA overall 3.71 SCI. GPA 3.72

THAT is insane.

thanks for the info.

I'm curious as to where some of the notoriously lower scoring schools now stand. ie. Meharry, howard, miss, WVU, IUPUI

These are the stats for the class of 2010...not 2011. The stats for students who got in this year might be a bit higher than what posted above. Wowwww....it is getting harder and harder to get into dental school. It happened faster than I initially thought.

I was considering waiting to apply next year.... Maybe not. I might not get in then!

I have to figure out where my residency is soon tho :/ NC or FL ! Which would be better overall/easier to get in to!?

Right now I am sitting on a 3.73Avg 3.52Sci 22DAT

Good luck to you all, I am already starting to get a little worried.

I have heard from admissions committees that the big jump in grades and DAT was last year. I bet that the grades and DAT scores for 2011 are slightly higher than 2010 but not as big of a jump as it was from 2009 to 2010 (Harvard from 22 to 24.5....and most other schools jumping a whole point).

my god... seriously.. 19 is going to be the new average at this rate... =/...
