Hi everyone,
Been reading the threads for a while and finally getting ready to apply for this upcoming cycle. Just wanted to see what my shots were for MD or DO (I'll take what I can get), i'm your typical "had trouble adjusting to college" story although it took me a little while to turn it around

--White Male
--PA Resident, attending school in eastern PA at large university
-Majors: Biology and Philosophy, 5th year senior graduating in April
--cGPA: will end up being around 3.16
--sGPA: will end up being around 3.07
GPA for my last 75 credits is around a 3.7 for both cumulative and science, is above 3.8 for both
if you take out one D and one C (due to death in family around finals that semester). I know adcoms will see the numbers but I just wanted to emphasize that if you look at my transcript for the last 5 or so semesters, most of the grades I received are A's or A-'s with those two classes doing a lot of damage.
Tons of upper level bio classes and some neuro in my last 5 semesters, A's or A-'s in all of them (microbio, developmental, immunology, endocrinology, anatomy/physiology, biochem, cell bio, medical micro, etc etc)
Think I can graduate with honors in Philosophy

--MCAT: 515, 93rd percentile (C/P: 126, CARS: 129, B: 129, P/S: 131), pretty bummed about the chem/phys section being unbalanced (is that a major issue?) but definitely don't have the energy to take it again lol.
--Research: 1000+ hours doing undergrad research as a paid job, have two poster presentations at national conferences, will most likely have a 2nd or 1st author pub by may

-Clinical: currently volunteering as a patient escort in a hospital, will have 150 hours by application time. after graduation may do a clinical intership or get a patient care tech job at a local hospital just to get more clinical experience during the app cycle
-Nonclinical: just started volunteering at a homeless shelter, will have around 75 hours by app cycle
--EC's: two semesters as a TA for an intro bio class, founding member+various roles up through president (currently) of a political club on campus, various involvement with premed organizations.
--Shadowing: none yet, I really wanted to see if my MCAT even gave me a shot at applying before doing 100 hours of shadowing, just got the MCAT back a few weeks ago so now I'm going to start on this. will shadow both DO and MD for around 50 hours each?

overall my application seems pretty bland aside from research, MCAT, and upward trend, but I'm hoping I still have a shot at MD or DO? let me know if there are any areas I should really focus on before applying aside from what I have listed and what schools I would seem to have a shot at. right now my main places to apply to are in state. I have MSAR but I'm waaay below 10th percentile in terms of GPA for most of them but this is my list so far, would appreciate input on what schools would look favorably on my app! thanks in advance

50 hours each is gilding the lily. But get in more volunteering.

I suggest adding the following:
BU
Tulane
Gtown
GWU
Albany
NYMC
Hofstra
Case
Duke
Loyola
Dartmouth
Wake
EVMS
VCU

Thank you a ton Goro, your input means a lot! Do you have any input on DO schools or do you think my shots for MD are decent?
