State: IL
MCAT: 517(130/128/129/130)
Undergrad cGPA/sGPA: 3.79/3.71 with an upward trend (& cum laude) at t15
Undergraduate major: Neuro
Year in School: 2nd year of graduate degree
Graduate degree: Master of Public Policy at t5
Research: Total hours 1185, 9th author on 1 paper, 2nd author on 2 posters
Non-Clinical Volunteering: 700 hours (at a sexual assault survivor non-profit & at local juvenile detention facility)
Clinical Volunteering: 400 hours
~ 100 abroad on medical brigades
~ 300 domestic at clinic for undocumented immigrants
Clinical Employment: 2500 hours
Did a gap year before graduate school at a safety net clinic
Non-Clinical Employment (during school): 300 hours
Leadership: 150 hours
President of 2 medically-related clubs during undergrad
Teaching: 100 hours
TA for bio lab
Letters of Rec: 5 total + committee letter from undergrad pre-health office (so it will be a letter packet)
Misc: A lot of students say they're becoming a physician to care for marginalized communities, but my app is unique in that I have already taken a step towards that career with my MPP degree. My statement focuses on service to marginalized groups as a physician while also using my MPP degree to advocate for health equity and justice in health policy.
Schools I applied to:
UMiami
Loyola
Jefferson SKMC
SLU
Rush
Tufts
Georgetown
Case Western
Boston Univ
Univ of Illinois
UChicago
Northwestern
UPenn
Columbia
Harvard
Cornell
Yale
NYU Grossman & NYU Long Island
Mt Sinai
What schools should I add? Is it too late to add more schools? I am specifically interested in urban poverty issues, so I am mostly applying to schools in cities. Thanks everyone
