1.) You can do any type of research, clinical or benchwork or whatever. Even better if you get published. Do it for a significant amount of time, say around a year at the least.

2.) The basics: kinetics, Newtonian F=ma crap, electricity and magnetism, bouyancy and all that water junk, circuits, etc.
