Hey, all! After reading these posts for months (some for entertainment value, some to offer a little advice about the application process) I'm gonna bring closure to my SDN viewing by offering a few random, though somehow highly appropriate statements):

1. To the guy or girl who wants to "Thanks AMCAS" for their help; Jesus Christ, are you serious? That's like all the shareholders at Enron thanking Kenneth Lay or all the other creeps there for totally screwing them and gouging their retirement plans. Don't you see that this is all a business? It is what they get paid to do, they do not have any valid interest whatsoever in helping us achieve their goals. I respect those in the data entry field (hard work is hard work) but let's not get carried away. YOU SHOULD REALLY THANK ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO STOOD BY YOU THROUGH THICK AND THIN. AMCAS has already forgotten about you, by your true friends and family won't.

2. To all the gunners with 99% scores: congrats. As you remember I posted a message about all the overconfident testtakers, reminding them of the cruel nature of the beast known as the MCAT and to underestimate your scores and be pleasantly surprised. Well, I can say congratulations. You are gonna be doctors!

3. To those with 27-29 scores: retaking is a tough decision, depending on GPA, LOR's and other things: Weigh the pros and cons. I took the test twice, went up by 1 point, managed to get into 5 schools this year, and am starting at Georgetown SOM in August. Oh, and I didn't get a 30 on the MCAT. So, hang in there and do what you have to do. A 27-29 is a very good score range. YOU ARE ALSO GONNA BE DOCTORS!

4. To those below 27: Retake, but you are ahead of the game because you have met this test before and you'll have the last laugh most likely. You won't be as nervous. In fact, you will be angrier the second time. Anger, I have found, is a very powerful emotion and motivator. ATTACK THE TEST IN AUGUST.

5. To the people who talk about correlation between success in medical school and the verbal reasoning section: perhaps, but I have seen just as many studies stating the opposite. Hard work, perseverance, and studying get you through medical school, let's not forget. I anticipate hard a$$ work at Georgetown but the USMLE and MCAT are not the same. MCAT tries to trick your a$$ on a lot of questions, while FOR THE MOST PART the USMLE tests whether you know the basic sciences. Course, it is not an easy test but we have all chosen one of the most difficult professions there is because of that challenge.

Phew.

I also took the test twice, there is no shame in that. There is shame in letting fear/depression over past results psyche you out into not taking it again.

To doc2b1977, I was wondering if it's not too much to pry, which it is but I'm dying to know, which state did you apply from and to what schools and did you apply right after undergrad? But don't have to answer if I'm being too nosy.
