The search feature is not working for me, so I'm sorry if these have been answered before. I have two questions: can you list shadowing opportunities in the AMCAS EC section, and if so, what category from the drop-down menu do you put them in? Also, can you list shadowing opportunities that are in the future but that you will not have begun before you submit AMCAS? I have made definite plans to shadow a surgeon, but our schedules don't allow me to begin until August 1st, and I hope to submit AMCAS tomorrow. Thanks for any help!

1. the category for shadowing is "other"
2. if you are sure you are going to shadow, the general consensus is to go ahead and list it.

I disagree:

1. I would list shadowing as a clinical experience. You are shadowing a doctor who works with patients in a clinical setting after all. 🙄

2. What the hell are you going to write about in the description section if you haven't started the experience yet?! Talk is cheap, so if you haven't started the activity yet, I'd save it for secondaries and interviews. There'll be plenty of time to explain it in those venues.

This was a tough one for me. I only had one entry for volunteer work and shadowing. I had already started one shadowing experience, so in the description I felt it would be alright to also mention that I had arranged for shadowing opportunities within other departments of the hospital.
