I was wondering what an "away rotation" means?. Also, what are the average COMLEX step 1 scores for family practice and internal medicine, I know that there are more important factors than just Step 1 score for residency, did they do away with taking Step 2, is it true that we no longer have to take it?

an away rotation means you are going away to do a rotation.. Example - you go to school in California but you go to New York to do a rotation at a program you are interested in.

For FP, lots and lots of unfilled DO spots. Board scores arent huge for FP. If you want FP, you'll get it. Maybe not your 1st choice, but somewhere. There are competetive programs, but not an overall competetive field.

  🤣:roflcopter: I wish!

You still have to take Step 2. Most schools actually require it for graduation.

There is talk of combining step 1 and step 2, but that hasn't happened yet.

Umm...that sounds bad....😱

can someone tell me what a traditional rotating internship is and why someone would do a traditional rotating internship? what is the purpose of it?

anybody can tell me the recommended behavioral sciences book for usmle step 1? another question: when do we take step 3?

It's an internship not connected to a specialty. One would do it in case they:

1. Were going to go to another program for residency (i.e. a PGY2 MD spot)

2. They haven't chosen a specialty yet (the original purpose for the TRI--in the ol days you didn't apply for residency till internship).

3. They didn't match and scrambled for any old TRI available so they could get the ball rolling after graduation and still find a residency.

It is analagous to the MD "prelim medicine" year, kind of. However the DO TRI as far as I'm aware still has you doing OB and PEDS, which is the requirement to be licensed in the 5 states as a DO. Am I right guys? It's been a long time since I've thought about this, and things could be changing under my nose, who knows...residency has me living under a rock.

And, you HAVE to take COMLEX parts 1, 2 and 3 plus the PE to get a medical license. Your med school diploma means squat, in terms of practicing as a physician.
