Anyone else feel the same? I mean even though medschool is a lot more work than college I feel like as long as i do what i am supposed to and pass my classes I am set...Its weird because I have never felt this way, all my life i was used to topping out in classes and striving hard to get as many A's as possible...felt like I had a huge pressure on myself for doing so well. Now once medschool started, I just knew I wasn't going to be a top student anymore and I learned to be content with where I am and just move on. I am sure its not the same for those wanting really competitive residencies, but for me I feel like "the pressure is off". Just thought I post this to see if there are others who feel the same.

Yeah, I feel exactly the same. I just want to go into internal medicine or psychiatry so I figured I don't need to kill myself to honor courses. I've spend the past year and a half just passing my classes (with a few high passes sprinkled in). I've been taking most weekends off and just work hard during the week. I'll be busting my a$$ during my clinical rotations and residency so why work myself to death right now...I'm having fun in med school.

rationalization. mediocrity sucks.

I'm kind of mediocre too. If I really like a class and am good at it then I will try to high pass or honor but I don't care all that much. I've noticed that the people who are hardcore tend to be a$$holes anyways. They have to work hard in life since they can't usually get by on charm.

Sounds to me like you're well adjusted...

Not at my school. It would be convenient to peg hole all the people that kick my ass in tests as @$$holes who have no people skills, but that just isn't the truth. Many of them are really amazing compassionate people who are volunteering at health clinics during medical school and know how to study better than I do (or else they're just smarter! 😀 ).

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

It's OK that you're doing better than me in school because that must mean you're a douchebag with no social skills!

Seriosly, I'm not all-med school or anything, I recognize there are lot of people that are doing better than me. But I usually attribute it to the fact that they work REALLY hard or are just gifted people. They tend to be amazingly cool people as well. Guess I'm just lucky.

Wow, you really are astute, aren't you? How did you know that was my secret ambition in life? 🙄

Ok sorry, maybe I mis-worded my response. I did NOT say that "People who do better than me are a$$holes." I said, "People WHO ARE HARDCORE are usually a$$holes." What I meant by hardcore was the footcramp attitude of "If you're not gunning in basic sciences, you're not worthwhile." There are definitely lots of people who do better than me that are cool and nice and whatnot, but I would NOT call these people 'hardcore'. Sorry if my semantics misled you, but hardcore is an attitude, not a med school grade point average.
