hey guys,
alright...here is a silly question. i sent in my secondary with a check to Northwestern some time early in September. I a post secondary rejection from them early this month. However, I've noticed that they haven't even deposited the check that I gave them. What should I do? Is it wrong to void it? How long do people have to deposit a regular check before time is up?😕

keep in mind that someone did take the time to review your application and he/she will not get paid for it if you void your check.

plus, you don't want to burn any bridges (in the future for residency applications- i doubt they'll keep a record, but you never know.)

unless you're REALLY tight for money, just let them have the money.

Personally, it would depend on the school. I got a post secondary rejection from Utah when I was convinced I should've gotten an interview (statistically). So, I was hoping they'd slip up and give me the opportunity to cancel their check on them. They didn't, but I would've cancelled it in a heartbeat.

I probably wouldn't have done it at any other school, it's just that I had this beef with them. Plus, the rejection came so fast, that it was obvious that my secondary wasn't "poured" over for hours.

[Off to check if Downstate already cashed my check...]

Yeah let 'em have the cash.... good point about not wanting to burn bridges, plus they might keep bothering you for the money, you don't want hassles... put it this way... you wanted a service, you got it and now just pay the $$$, I know its expensive but what to do? sorry about your rejection by the way... trust me I know how it feels.

Anyhow, I personally always write money orders... its partially because I'm Canadian and don't want to mess around with the whole CAN vs. US dollars, 'cause my account is canadian... just easier to get a money order

if it was clear that they rejected you without there being any possibility of a review of your app then I'd say by all means. But if you have reason to believe that your app received fair consideration, then I think you should pay the money.

On a related note: has anybody had an experience where a med school cashes a check the day payment arrives, and then mails a rejection the next day? I've heard rumors of these, but never found anybody who's had this happen to them.

There are some SDNers who posted earlier this app season after receiving a rejection later that was dated on the same day their secondary check was cancelled. That was from Stanford by the way. They sure know how to run a little business over there! No, I'm not bitter- they just plain ignored me (at least I have some extra pocket money)🙄
