Is anyone else tired of hearing about applicants with 38 S on the MCAT and 3.8 GPA's who are whining about how they only have had four interviews and have only been accepted to three schools?

Are there any other average applicants out there?

Has anyone else had about one or two interviews, no acceptences, hoping like hell that all those rumours about interviews after the winter break aren't true?

Let's not give up hope, average applicants have got a chance too, right? Medical schools can't all be number whores.

I'm average too! You know what drives me crazy...all my science classes are filled with pre-meds and all my tests are still curved so that average is a C. Now why is it that an A-/B+ GPA makes you average all of a sudden? Geez!

Word. There are some of us out here who have gotten in with what many on this board would consider $hit for numbers.

Thanks for keepin it real, literally.

No worries, guys and gals! My friend was interviewed primarily in Feb and March, and got into all the schools! Good luck!

I just felt like a lot of us average applicants, including me, may have felt a little intimidated to post on this site with all of these overqualified applicants throwing their numbers around. Its good to hear from others in the same situation as I.

I'm not exactly fed up, although I am annoyed with all these threads about "I just got a C...what do I do!!!" For the most part, though, I find SDN to be a relief to me, the average applicant. I have seen quite a few "average joes" do fairly well this year, and I have seen just as many super-stars do poorly. Before I found SDN I was more worried about my stats than I am now, and I chuckle to myself everytime some professor trys to tell me that 3.7 is the average and that you really must have above a 3.5 to apply at all (Of course, this isn't too far from the truth but it is certainly not the rule).

why'd you change your picture? I was celebrating your femininity and now I have to celebrate your androgyny and I don't like it.
Also, you're right, there's no nobility in mediocrity. I don't know how average I am, I just wanted to belong to something.

I'm just trying to figure out exactly when posting a thread became tantamount to a celebration. I guess you could make a case for it though...sort of like making an MDapplicants profile...

But his name and his old pic were so deceptive. I thought it was pretty damn funny. And now... well... his name still makes me laugh.

Vermont! i am going to go home and bathe in maple syrup while eating Ben and Jerry's. there's a picture for you!

I am starting to wonder if I accidently wrote something in my application like "If I am offered an interview, I will have sex with all the 40 year old virgins."

You are greedy with interviews. I mean, good work. These last 8 days have been good to you: an interview at creighton, a scholarship at iowa and now an opportunity to have syrup come out of your pores.

I am sorry but I take the cake for being average. Actually, I think I am below average. MY GPA is good but lets say my MCAT barely breaks the 50% level and I still have interviews. No, I am not a URM. I am a white boy.

You are all going to need profilactics (sp.) for all the interview love i am spreading to all of you!

I can't be the only one who got the Vermont email today. Mota? Shy? anyone?

Okay Shy, Rayhan, and Mota--just come with me. We all applied there what's the worst thing they could do if we all showed up. We are the Coalition of the Grovelling! Are any of you from Palau? That would seal this coalition and make us unstopable!!!

I'm down with that. I'll show up dressed at Vermont and pretend all outraged when they can't find my name on the list. I should do this for so many schools. On a side note, I called AECOM and asked for an invite stating that I'll be in the area around January....then they looked at my application and found out that I live an hour train ride from them...so, that didn't work and I think they red-taped my file or something.

I called Vermont this week, and they said a decision has been made on my application and that I will get something soon. I wonder if they send out all the emails at once or if a snail mail rejection is on the way... I really want to bathe in maple syrup with gdbaby--how's that for a mental image? :p

Hey I want to jump on the Vermont-I-want-an-interview bandwagon too!

Sadly, no interview for me today. But when I called the other day, they said I *might* be getting one. I now have this vague hold type thing from like 4 schools, so statistically, I should get an interview at one of them, right?

By the way gd, would you seriously consider $40K a year for Vermont when you've already got that scholarship from Iowa? And yes, maple syrup and Ben & Jerry's are both very delicious.

I need to do some more research on scholarship opportunities at Vermont. It seems like a lot of schools offer a wide range of scholarships to students.

"Might"? That's crumby! I might pass my O Chem Lab final today, but I doubt it. How the h-e-double hockey sticks am I supposed to study for this thing?

Who says average is bad? Medical schools don't just look for grades, they're looking at you, too! They know that people who are book smart may not necessarily do well clinically-speaking, and vice versa. Don't be so hard on yourself!

I do have some insight onto the ultra-competitive fools, though (can't lie, myself included. Checkers with me is NO FUN.)

    The coalition so far:
Gdbaby - the fearless and amusing leader
Mota - the non-chalant, mostly high but comes to the rescue at the last moment guy of the group
yourmom - the smart but humble dude of the group, will make gadgets
shyrem - the baker and all around-nice person of the group, always supporting
rayhan - the idiot man-child of the group, who will blow the cover and get the group in trouble

In no way is average bad. But, we still have problems with med school admissions. I can't complain thought. I have 4 osteopathic acceptances and 1 allopathic interview. This process has treated me well. Plus, I have HOLDs at a bunch of places and before you guys turn around and say HOLDs are rejections that is false. I know people who got off the HOLD list and were accepted.

Not only am I the baker, but I am the maker of highly alcoholic-laden beverages to fortify our group and enhance our strength (in our own minds anyway).
