AACOM: volunteer/extracurricular experiences

Hi everyone, I'm applying to the upcoming (2018) application cycle for DO schools. I was wondering, I was getting ready to list and write about my extra circular activities but have a quick question. I studied abroad where I did multiple volunteering experiences and research. Could I break each of those up or would it just fall into one category of "study abroad".

Since you did these while studying abroad, I would use that as the overall experience, but then go into detail about what you've done specifically

For example:
Study Abroad ______________
- Did XYZ
-Also did ABC

Question! I just started working on my ECs
You probably have completed your ECs by now, so I would very much value your input.
How do you frame your ECs and experiences? There are only a few characters and 15 activities. How do you write impactful stories with these limited characters?
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm really in a pickle right now lol
