I completed AADSAS application form and paid very close to
600 dollars. When I go to the web sites of any perticular school
that I have applied for, it asks for additional application handling fees. For example, at UOP it says following:
Send directly to UOP dental school:

Application Fee
A $75.00 application fee made payable to the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. Please make sure that you include your correct name, address, and Social Security number for proper identification.

Official DAT scores
The ADA will forward your official DAT scores to UOP if you request them to do so at the time of your test. If you did not direct the ADA to send UOP your scores, please contact the ADA at (800) 621-8099 or you can print a DAT transcript request form online at http://www.ada.org and have your scores sent to us as soon as possible.

Is this in addition to AADSAS application fees?

Yup. The schools must keep their business going just as AADSAS does🙂

Unfortunately, YES!!

AADSAS fee is only to organize and photocopy(!!) your aplication and send it to the prospective schools. the rest is upon you. contact every school and see what they want. every school wants an application fee w/o which your file will not even be looked at. some schools prefer to contact the student and ask for money, whereas some want you to send in the money at the same time that you submit your AADSAS application. some schools are OK with personal checks while some want money order ONLY.... pain in the .... you know...

DAT scores are also separet, the basic fee that you paid coveres the fee of sending your scores to 5 schools (hope you have taken advantage of that) if you havent and/or if you have more than 5 schools, you need to pay $10 per school. there is a DAT request form on their webpage.

be ready to spend couple thousand ( at least) by the time you get acceptance from the school of your choice.

good luck to you.

ahh.. welcome to the world of Applying to Dental School

Once again, I don't see how this is a rip-off. If you want to go to dental school you have to pay a bit to support the admissions staff and office. Think about it - 1000 applicants at $60 is $60,000. Sounds like salaries for admissions director and secretaries as well as office supplies and other overhead. Schools with more applicants need a proportionatly larger staff. Seems like a small price to pay to me!
