Found out today that West Virginia University only accepts 6 out of state applicants a year and last year there were over 1,000 out of state apps and the 6 that got in all had near perfect GPAS.

I live in Virginia and thought they would cut me a break.

Nope, must be a West Virginia resident.

Figures.

Glad I didnt waste my $50.00.

Is it even a decent school? I have heard that they are having money problems up there.

Morgantown isn't necessarily the "hippest" place to be, if I remember correctly, its an old steel and coal mining town, but WVU isn't known for being a bad school, they're actually fairly decent. I've been up there, I'm actually from Maryland and toured WVU before going to UF in Florida and its a pretty location, I saw their dental school but nothing really stood out, I'd say UF's, just from looks, is much better. I can't speak for their programs or anything, but I know they favor west virginan residents heavily, due to the poverty there and the fact that they need dentists more than ever IN west virginia...we won't go there...

Most if not all schools have money problems...overhead for 1 dental practice is pretty high...imagine multiplying that by 25-100 (each student essentially has their own operatory for 3rd and 4th year...usually 3rd and 4th years have to share...but still schools have to pay for each chair and the maintenance of them). Med schools have the luxury of sending their students to nearby hospitals for rotation (or whatever it is they do 3rd and 4th years). Yes they have nice facilities but most schools contain mainly lecture halls and auditoriums. Lastly, some medical schools receive private compensation from a corporation and can receive money from being affiliated with a hospital. Most if not all dental schools are rarely associated with hospitals...

You got that right.

Why waste my $50.00.

I dont know why 1000 people would waste theirs.

they got 996 people to apply there for nothing. That is $50,000.
then if they interviewed 500 of them thats another $50,000 that had to pay a $100 application fee..

$100000 changed hands and not one of those people got in.

I guess thats why they accept out of state apps.

NO I don't agree. Why don't you get a life ********

We have a nice school (inexpensive too) right here in Virginia, why would you want to pay out of state tuition to go to Morgantown of all places?

You thought they would give you a break for being an out of stater that was close by? That's like saying that I thought I would get a break at UNLV because I'm from California. Let's use some common sense people!

She is thinking that since West Virginia has Virginia in it she should get 50% dicount being from virginia. I like her point.

Virginia, West Virginia...North Carolina, South Carolina...North Dakota, South Dakota...the possiblities are endless.

In 2004 Men's Journal rated Morgnatown the #3 small town in America and one of the top 50 places to live. If you actually buy into the idiotic West Virginia stereotype, please don't come here, I don't want you infesting my town with your 'fancy' big city ways. 🙄
