Hi,
I was wondering if you seasoned attendings could shed some light into how a sabbatical works. Is it possible to take a sabbatical and go do MSF (ie Doctors w/out borders) for a year? Are sabbaticals typically paid?
I know several profs going on (or who have gone on) sabbatical, but these weren't physicians--is it harder for an academic physician to do this as opposed to an academic prof in some other area (who doesn't have patient responsibilities)?
Lastly--what is the policy for sabbaticals; are they earned after decades of hard work, or are they (relatively) easier to come by?
Thanks.
