How many days does it usually take to get an acceptance in the mail on the West Coast if it is mailed from the East Coast (or vice versa)? I'm guessing 3 days, but I was just wondering what other people's experiences were.

I'm not sure, but it took 7 business days for my Columbia interview invite to make it from NYC to Arkansas, if that helps...

i usually give coast-to-coast mail 3-4 business days. It can be longer.

the US postal service has an estimator on their website:

http://postcalc.usps.gov/

To calculate domestic postage rates, enter the zipcodes of the point of origin and arrival. It will not only tell you how much it would cost to mail, but also how many days it would take to arrive.

good luck! :luck:

No offense to the OP, but threads like this confirm that we're all going mad.

Why can't schools just tell us already? Instead, we go off making entire topics like this about mail delivery time, what time of day schools call, and big vs. small envelopes.

I can't wait for this process to be over with.

On that note, how does does it take for something to go from East Coast to Midwest? 😉

FIRST CLASS mail takes 2-3 days cross-country. However, I've noticed that most med schools are cheapskates and send things at the Pre-sorted bulk-rate. This takes several days longer than true-first class. For example, my Northwestern rejection postmarked 2/24 from Chicago got to Evanston (8 miles away) today, 2/28. It was postmarked also with a discount bulk rate of 31.9 cents instead of first class 39 cents.

Dear Medical Schools,

Accept me. Reject me. Make a list and let me wait.
Say whatever you need to say,
just don't let it get here late.
Paper's nice, and it's so classy.
But email's better - it's so much faster!

Haha I feel ya' on this one. East to West is usually about 3, but East to my house is more like 5. What can I say, the mail carriers don't like my street...

Best advice I can give is to fill up your days with other stuff so you don't think about it!

i've gotta stop this. according to this thing I'll get my p&s and duke letter on the same day.

No offense taken- I realize I'm getting neurotic, but it will help a little to diminish my anxiety and keep my compulsive mailbox checking to a minimumm if I know when to expect letters. I WISH ALL SCHOOLS WOULD JUST USE EMAIL OR STATUS PAGES!!!!

This thing just gave me heart palpitations. I almost DIED! And then, I'd never find out what my schools decided 😱

This is only valid for true first class and not the bulk rate that most med schools use. It will take longer in general.
