I recently (January) started a new clinical trials based job with a small biomedical company. I also was recently accepted to an MD program and am very excited to start.

One of the reasons I think I got in is because they were (Or my interviewer was) interested in this research. Due to the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on the economy, I was let go because I am the newest employee and funding is low.

Do I need to notify the school that accepted me? Will they understand my lack of employment for the next few months given the current economic situation?
1) Just let them know.
2) Yes, it is not a surprise given the many layoffs that have just happened over the past week or so (before paydays at the end of months or weeks).

Thank you. I appreciate your feedback, I had concerns because it will essentially be impossible to find a job in the next 2 months leading up to my move to that state.

No one will fret you for that. You were accepted off of performance on things you've already completed and your potential, not what you might have done in the 2-3 remaining months before school starts. So don't worry about it, especially in the current situation.

Congrats.

Finding a job in this circumstance is challenging but not impossible. But that said, if you're starting medical school soon, enjoy your time before starting, especially since things will be pretty challenging for everyone. It's hard for most of us to NOT be busy, but it may be good for your health to recharge and be ready to go. Stay home and encourage others to do the same.
