I can't speak for every program, but here, SOM representatives sit on MD-PhD admissions and have been known to occasionally block an admission offer that the "PhD" part of the program would like to make. However, the applicant would never be told by the MD-PhD program that they had been accepted prior to that happening - if you were accepted MD-PhD, you're accepted to medical school.
