Hello everybody,

I can't believe that I am finally able to post an acceptance thread! Yuuuuuppppie!

I have applied 2 years ago without success, and finally this second time around things worked out for me!!!!

Thus, this post should be an encouragement to those of you who have not gotten an acceptance yet this year! Don't give up...

Also, I loved NYMC, the people were very friendly, you can't beat that cool anatomy lab with day light, and the cute college-like campus! And of course I love the big APPLE, except for the fact that I have "bridge-phobia" which I will have to overcome!

I am still waiting to hear from other schools, particularly my state school, but it sure feels good to have an acceptance in my hand!

All the best to everyone!

Congratulations!

And, by the way, the fancy-shmancy word for what you have is gephyrophobia, and I'm sure you've been told before, but GET OVER IT...a pun, you get it??

Regarding overcoming gephyrophobia at NYMC, you'll just have to cross that bridge when you get to it...sorry couldn't help it...the material is too easy for puns

Congratulations !! :)

Congratulations!

how was the interview? I have an interview comming up with them.

Any hard of difficult questions?
unexpected questions?

anything else to add?

thanks for the help

I just got back from the NYMC interview yesterday... it was very laid back. I actually talked about coffee with my interviewer. Questions were pretty basic.. tell me about your family, why medicine, whats wrong with health care, why would you be a good doctor, tell me about your research and extracurriculars. It was all conversational and when i disagreed with my interviewer, it wasn't bantering so that's good.

A few of the other interviewees had tougher interviews (esp. with the associate dean... lotsa questions & follow-up questions I'm told). But just know the basics and you'll be fine. NYMC is a great school :)

Hi Lamd,

I had an interview with just one person. He was a cell biologist, and we had a very nice conversation. I believe the interview was blind so he had not read my file before the interview.

You should be prepared to answer the "red-flag" question as the admission committee wants to know what your weaknesses are, and most likely also on how you view and judge yourself. You should see this as an opportunity to explain weaknesses in your file. For example, unfortunately I have a low verbal score as I am a non-native speaker (even though I put in much effort to prepare for the difficult verbal section), so I pointed out to my interviewer that my writting score on the MCAT (which sadly most schools ignore) is well above the national average.

Also, be prepared to answer questions that are specific to your work, volunteering and hobbies. I work in a cancer research lab, and since my interviewer was a cell biologist, he was very interested in the details of our projects. I grew up near some huge mountains, so we also talked about skiing. Since I met my husband skiing, he asked me who I believe was a better skier, me or my husband!!! That was of course an easy question for me...!!! My husband would of course not agree with my answer, but that is another story ;-)

Good luck with your interview! Let me know how it went... I stayed with relatives in upper Manhattan, and drove to the school before the interview (takes about 30 minutes). But if you can, you should try to stay with a student (they have a host program), I am sure that would be lots of fun.

Blow them off their feet!!! If you have more questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them for you.

:) :D :D :)

CONGRATULATIONS!! That's awesome :) NYMC is a really nice school, too.

  Congrats!!!

How long did it take for you to hear from them after your interview? I was there on 3/7 and am waiting anxiously.

Hi Inanna,

My interview was in December, and I received my acceptance letter in March, so it took about 10 weeks to get the good news.

Good luck to you!
By the way, the acceptance letter comes in a big, brown envelope!

I just got the good news from NYMC today too. I interviewed there on 1/15 so it took over 10 weeks. It's my first acceptance, too, so I'm pretty pumped. BTW, my envelope was white. Later.

Hi Sternrower,
Congrats to you too!!!!

They must use envelopes with different colors!

Chnobli

Uh-oh...I see a "WHAT COLOR IS YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER ENVELOPE" poll...or worse, a list...

Congratulations to both of you...

Hi everybody,

The envelope was white... I guess I was so excited that I saw brown... :D
