One of my letter writers (who wrote a great letter for me in the past for something else) for an organisation I volunteered for just got back to me saying they'd write me a letter for med school. They were, unfortunately, dealing with some personal things and weren't able to get back to me months ago. I read posts from years ago saying that it could hurt you to submit additional letters after you're complete, and others saying it could put you all the way at the bottom of the pile again, but I wanted to know if opinions changed.

I can't imagine it would change your place in the queue if you haven't been reviewed. The worst-case scenario in my head would be your application was already reviewed and the LOR wasn't included in that evaluation. With that said, schools claim to re-review applications throughout the cycle, so... I'd say go ahead and submit! But, take my advice with a grain of salt, as a fellow applicant ;)
