One last post for the afternoon, and I shall return to productivity.

I was just wondering what you think about Admissions Brochures. In the "What is there to do in *blank* city?" section of all of the brochures that I've read, the admissions people discuss all of the frou-frou high culture activities like opera, ballet, art galleries available. Is this what the typical applicant cares about?

I happen to appreciate symphony and an occasional art exhibit, but if I have just a few hours to unwind after studying all week, I'm sure as h*ll not heading to a gallery or concert hall. I'm going to hear some fun music (like Interpol, Gorillaz, etc) at a live music venue and unwind. If I were writing an admisisons brochure, I'd be including all of the cool hang-outs.

Are you with me? Anyone else who would choose Beck over Bach?

I don't want to go anywhere after a long hard week of studying. If they have a set of running trails, a blockbuster and a Walmart, all of my desires will be met. I sincerely doubt that I'll be headed to the museum or the opera....

Not much of a Beck fan, but I do see your point.

Put it this way....give me a place with good fishing, a gym and near good fossil collecting and I'm set for my spare time (what little I will have).

I care about that high culture stuff. I love going to the symphony, the theater, and museums, especially in cities where student discounts are easy to come by. I may only do those things once every month or two, but I'd definitely be interested in knowing that they were available. I guess I might be in the minority though.
