Unless you have landed immigrant status or citizenship in Canada, you'll find it more difficult to get into Canadian medical schools since you're effectively applying as an international student. If your degree is from Canada or from the U.S., it makes no difference; the citizenship requirement is the biggest issue.

If you go to an LCME-accredited Canadian school as a U.S. citizen, you will not be considered an IMG in the U.S. if you apply for residencies there (you won’t need to get the ECFMG certificate). You will, however, have to take Step 1 and Step 2 of the USMLE like other U.S. medical students. Also, if you are admitted, keep in mind that some Canadian schools make you sign a contract stating that you are ineligible for the Canadian residency match upon graduation.

It's always wisest to obatin medical training in the country where you intend to practice. It will save a lot of headaches.
