ADPKD Renin Production

ADPKD presents with hypertension 2/2 to renin production but is that renin produced due to:

1. Increased amount of JG cells producing renin?

or

2. Some sort of obstruction leading to JG perceiving a low volume state and having a physiologic response?

or

3. ?

My interpretation has always been that the cysts are obstructive, which thus leads to more firing of JG cells. So #2.

I agree with the obstructive explanation, actually. Seems like cysts in the cortex and medulla are just going to decrease parenchymal cells.
