Research has repeatedly shown that the best treatment for ADHD is both medication and behavioral modification, not one or the other.
It's ridiculous how many psychiatrists are scared or "don't believe in" stimulants and adult ADHD, as demonstrated by this thread.
Not sure what you mean? There are tens of thousands of psychiatrists in this country. You have read post from about 15 who are questioning the validity and attribution of ubiquitous cognitive and psychiatric symptoms to a certain diagnosis (AD/HD). Exactly one of whom used the phase "do not believe in."
Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals are rightful (and are doing due diligence) to be critical in their evaluations, and to not believe every word their patient says/claims. Psychiatric diagnosis is not easy. If it were, we would let unlicensed individuals do it.
There's a lot more than that going on in this thread.
Yes, there is also the frustration of being continually being pressured by people to prescribe medications to patients that may cause harm and may not be indicated.
