In case you didn't see the thread in the Dental forums, there is a new test being developed for admission to specialty residencies since the boards are pass/fail.

This may even change which dental schools you are thinking of attending. I'm thinking those of us applying now will be some of the first that will have to take this.

Just when I thought I was done with the DAT too....

I don't see anything wrong with this tbh. Makes the decision easier for someone if they know they want to specialize, they can now include the P/F schools without a care of it affecting anything down the road.

I think it's great, unfortunate it's another test is all especially if OMFS makes you take the CBSE and this test haha

How much are the two tests different anyway? I could imagine you could study for CBSE and that will be good enough for ADAT.

Honestly I have no clue but it looks like over a third is biomedical sciences.

Well, right now specialty programs (other than OMS) have no way of evaluating applicants, especially the ones from P/F schools.

So in my state there's a pass fail school among other graded schools. All my friends who want to specialize plan on going to a graded school and not the pass fail one. Know what I mean?

Do you think in the future all dental schools will be pass/fail with the introduction of this test?

That would be cool. More like med school, takes off stress from trying to get every possible point in every class and more emphasis on exams. Very jealous of med schools for mostly being P/F

They still have class rank at P/F schools and get percentage grades, so it really doesn't take any of the competition away.

Unless you don't plan on specializing right?

My bad, we were talking about different professional schools. Honestly, whatever the grading system is it's going to be less cutthroat than med school because most dental students are not trying to specialize.

On the other hand, for those who do want to specialize, I feel like it would be like putting too much weight on one single metric being the ADAT test.
