Hey guys,

I am looking for some tips regarding how to approach PDs at audition rotations to express interest in the program. Basically, I am looking for advice on how not to be pushy, aggressive but at the same time letting programs know that I'd be willing to give up my left nut to get a residency spot there.

Any tips and advice sincerely appreciated

From what I've read on there, you can simply email the PD and let them know you're a rotating student and interested in meeting them, do a quick introduction at morning conference and then follow up with meeting them later in the month or let the student coordinator know and maybe they can help plan it out. Since you're rotating/auditioning I'm sure they know you have an interest and my plan is to just let them know from the get go and do my best so that I can get an interview come time.

IMO: A single brief, polite email. Best toward the end of your rotation (assuming people liked you).

I'm only on my first audition rotation, but we basically are told to schedule a day with them during office hours. Don't know how common that is in places who are rotating a ton of people through.

They expect it, especially in smaller fields. Send them an email or just meet with his/her secretary to set up a meeting near the end of your rotation. Just be straight forward, let them know what you liked and why. This is also the time to ask for a letter. Chances are, the chair/PD will mini-interview you for LoR substance and agreement of program goals.

Don't get ahead of yourself, though. Do the rotation before you decide to sacrifice body parts.

Also, be sure to spell things correctly (unlike what you did in your username, especially if you're going into op*H*tho...).

LOL 👍

Good catch

Just politely introduce yourself and arrange for a meeting 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through the rotation. Remember to be enthusiastic but not overbearing. This meeting could just as much hurt as help.

👍

Pretty much this. At least for IM most PDs know that students are angling to try and meet them in order to match residency at their program. They'll usually just tell you to set up an appt with the residency coordinator to meet with them.

When meeting with them look enthusiastic, well groomed (I went in my shirt/tie/slacks/white coat so you don't need to suit up), and ready to talk about yourself.
