I was wondering if any of who you could offer advice on finding housing around UCONN..i.e. where do most students live etc... Also is the school itself helpful in finding a place to live??
THANX!! 🙂

Okay, here goes for some info for you. First off you're looking a bit early. Many of the incoming students don't seriously start hunting until after they graduate their undergrads. Also if your looking to room with an upper classman, in general their leases don't run out until the end of June or the end of July. That part out of the way. Call the student affairs office, they keep a list of folks looking for roomates throughout the Healthcenter(Dents/Meds/PhD's/MPH's). You can also ask for the student affairs office number for UCONN Law school, its about 5 miles down the road in West Hartford, and a few folks will room with them.

Where do many folks live? Alot of 1st years will live across the street from the Healthcenter in one of 3 condo complexes (Talcott Forest, Talcott Glen and Talcott Ridge). Most folks if they do that will have 2 to 3 roomates depending on the unit size. It's also in walking distance from a bar (Murphy and Scarletti's) that alot of dent/med students and faculty frequent (not that I ever went there when I was in school 😀 )

Folks that don't live there will live in some of the surrounding communities New Britian and West Hartford are both roughly 5 to 10 minutes to the school with New Britian rents generally cheaper than West Hartford's. Some folks will also live in Avon or Bristol which are both roughly 20 minutes to the school and Avon rents generally more than Bristol's. The rents in Farmington around the school are generally in the medium to high end of the area rents.

Keep looking, and try the student affairs office. Fairly soon they should have a good list of folks looking for roomates.

Thank You Dr. Jeff,

as always you are kind and helpful. I guess i have been a litle too anxious about the housing process..but i REALLY like the idea about calling UCONN law school.
Thank you for the advice!!!
