Hello - Need some serious advice
MCAT - 21; Overall GPA - 3.44, Science GPA - 3.30

I took the Aug MCAT 2005, and already had applied.. not realizing I would do this poorly on the MCAT.. Not hearing any good news besides 1 On Hold.

I graduated June 2005. So already taking this year off. Working part time as a server at a restaurant and volunteering at a local hospital. Now looks like I need to study again for the MCAT.. but what is the most productive thing I can do during the next year off? Post-bac? Research? Work as a lab tech? but I will still need drastically improve the MCAT.

I believe everything else is good besides the MCAT... EC's, letters of rec, my personality and motivation for becoming a doctor etc...

In alll honesty, I basically waisted my $$ by applying this year?
Do I possibly have a chance? Still waiting to hear from WesternU, NYCOM and MSU. on hold @ AZCOM; Rejected by CCOM and DMU

You need to retake the MCAT and get a 25 or higher - preferably a 28+ to have an excellent shot at those schools.
Personally, I think doing research (not a lab tech dishwasher) is a great thing to do before medical school. It not only keeps you caught up on your knowledge of science, but it makes you think critically and helps you make connections (LORs). No offense, but being a server will probably look poorly on you medical school application. Do something related to your degree or related to medicine to show that you are driven to be involved with science.
Also, make sure your personal statement is well written and that you have intelligent people writing your LORs. Good stats alone will NOT get you into medical school… especially DO school. You have to show that you have the qualities of a doctor in your PS and in your interviews.

Take the next 6 months to find a medical related job, study for the MCAT, and put together your best app. Good luck

Also you could think of clinical research as well. It's a good combination of getting exposure to patients and doing research. Being a study coordinator brings you close to patients and medicine. I hope you'll hear from some of these schools pretty soon and apply early

you're applying at wrong schools. Should've applied to wsvon, pscom, vcom, lecom
