Hi SDNers I haven’t posted in a while, but I am currently a traditional second semester sophomore at a state school and wanted to get any feedback on how I am doing so far. I am aiming to apply for the 2022-2023 cycle without any gap years. I have a rough school list of about 25 MD schools from MSAR based solely on GPA, (projected) MCAT, and OOS bias for the time being. Any input is great and much appreciated!!!
This isn’t a WAMC (no MCAT yet lol) but just a check in to see how I am doing and thoughts on any other areas of improvement
- Current cGPA: 3.936 (after three full semesters, all A’s except one B in Orgo 1 last semester)
- MCAT: Planning on taking this coming August, beginning self studying in May
- State of Residence: Illinois, state school undergrad in Kentucky
- Ethnicity: ORM
- Undergraduate: University of Louisville
- Clinical Experience: Over 500+ hours as CNA at skilled nursing facility, about 80 as Hospitality Aide in months leading up to certification that was like a step down from CNA; projected total at time of primary app submissions is going to be well above 1100+
- Research Experience: joining professor’s lab that studies mainly plant development and differentiation in the coming weeks. Probably no pubs but I love the professor form a previous course and will most likely be doing grunt work with some wet lab techniques as well
- Shadowing: NONE so far; vaccinated and am wanting to get done sooner rather than later but not at the risk of others getting covid :/
- Other Extracurriculars: 250+ hours volunteer coaching at my old high school football team (not underserved kids, just love the game of football); 240 ish hours working in kitchen at current employment as CNA summer of 2019; Organized local (friends and family mainly) basketball league where we kept track of stats and did cool things like jersey swaps and what not; TriBeta Biology undergrad society as current chair position (letters of rec from here probably maybe idk); Member in mental health club/organization, volunteer event/drives and just normal weekly meetings
- Honors and awards: stuff like deans list for grades and what not
- Any other important info: Taking MCAT early so I can work full time winter break before 2022 application cycle. Not aiming to take gap years, but I understand the importance of doing so if need be
