I'm a non-traditional applicant working full-time in the corporate sector and trying to complete the last of my medical school prerequisites. Due to financial and time constraints (and being the only one in my family in the country), I’m not able to attend regular in-person classes or quit my job. So, I'm looking into taking General Chemistry II, most likely in an online or community college format.
I got a D in Gen Chem II back in college (I wasn’t premed at the time), and although my undergrad institution allowed me to move on to Organic and Biochem with it, I feel I need to retake it to strengthen my application. I also have a strong upward trend and no other major academic issues.
Should I reach out to admissions committees to clarify if they'd accept an online or community college Gen Chem II course on a case-by-case basis? For schools that don’t specify if community college courses are accepted in online formats, is it worth bringing up the online nature if it isn’t clearly indicated on the transcript? Are there other considerations I should keep in mind when selecting an online or community college course for this?
