Advice: Parents vs. Summer Plans

ok so my parents want me to come home really badly this summer..i barely get to see them (i dont go home for thanksgiving break or spring break) only time they usually see me is winter break for 3 weeks..last summer i also stayed at college to take classes...obviously i want to see my family but i wanted to do some research over the summer before my senior year so i could start on my honors thesis...but my parents are forcing me to come home...is tehre anyway i can do research in my home state from june to middle of august or is that pointless?? would med schools even recognize a mere 3 months of research?? obviously i am going ot start on research fall semester for my honors thesis just wondering what i should do for the summer...should i just forget research for the summer and just focus on clinical experience even though I think I have a decent amount of clinical expereinces already (I am EMT-I, have shadowed already, etc)?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

this is purely a matter of personal opinion, but if i were you and i wanted to go home and the only thing that would keep me at school is the chance to start research a couple months early, i think i would go home...don't be worried too much about the longer research time, in terms of impressing med schools...anything you do this summer that sounds fun and remotely related would look just as good...besides, you're gonna do an honors thesis! that'll involve plenty of in-depth, self-motivated work--and by itself it shows a commitment to research!

on the other hand, if you really would enjoy research more than anything else, and you think you might be bored at home...then stay! (sorry if i'm wishy washy in my advice, heh)

i did all my laboratory research in my home town while i was there for winter break (i had a 4 week winter break) and summer (~3 months) for two years. i don't think this negatively affected me at all.
