Hi guys,

This isnt really pertaining to apps or anything....but I just woke up with my first ear ache ever (or at least the first I remember) and it hurts like hell. Its been part of a bad cold I've had for the past few days. I am not sure if I have an infection and have been taking tylenol which has helped with the pain, but my hearing has become muffled. Would it be wise to go to the doctor and get some antibiotics? Or will this clear up in a few days?

Sorry if this seems like a ******ed question....I've just never had to deal with it before...

Thanks,

J

I'd probably check out a doc. I usually deal with ear pain sometimes, but when it gets to the point of me not hearing well and it hurts like hell (like something scratching your brain)....i leave it to the professionals.

Are you taking a decongestant (sudafed/tylenol cold and sinus/etc)? Sometimes an ear ache will accompany a narsty head cold with sinus congestion. If it doesnt clear up with that, go see your physician and he'll probably perscribe some flonase or something like that to clear up your head. If you're discharging green stuff from your nose and have lots of sinus pressure you'll probably get a z-pac (zythromycin) to knock a sinus infection out of you too. feel better.

Most likely you have an ear infection that was a result of your cold (my younger brother had the exact same symptoms you have). You might have water behind your eardrum, etc.

I would go see a doc ASAP because it can be a real pain especially when your hearing gets fuzzy - and most likely it will get worse. Antibiotics should do it. dont wait.

thanks for the replies, everyone....I went to the doc yesterday and she prescribed me some amox and they also irrigated my ears (which was very unpleasant). But I am feeling much better even after one day on meds.

Thanks again!

Ear aches are the worst!!
When I get them, I've found that heating pads work wonders. Put a towel between your face & the pad, though, you don't want to burn yourself. Plus if you're doing anything to make them drain, you might end up w/ ear goo on the towel, and you want to protect the pad.
