I got confirmation of my interview date and time at AECOM, and in the e-mail they wrote that I should let them know if I would like to meet with Noreen Kerrigan (Dean of Admissions), meet with a specific researcher, or sit in on a class. Am I expected to take them up on these offers?

went to high school there. it's bad. but as long as you're not an idiot (wandering the streets alone at 3am) you should be okay.
not so sure about AECOM's area though.

if you've been in projects before it's not too much different/worse. but if you're from like kentucky or missouri or something.. you'll be in for a change.

I submitted sometime in the middle of July - not sure of the exact date. I got an e-mail 8/7 saying my application is complete, an e-mail 8/8 asking me to pick a date to interview, and an e-mail 8/9 confirming my interview date.

AECOM is in a (relatively) good part of the Bronx. The crazy parts that you hear of are mainly in the South.

Ok so I have an interview also. So should we meet with the Dean? I think I WILL meet with a researcher. I think you have to sit in on a class, you just get the choice, 1st year or 2nd year course.

I interviewed last cycle. I did not meet with the Dean, researcher, or sit in on a class, mostly because I was worried about adding anything more to my crazy traveling schedule, but I would defintiely suggest meeting with Noreen Kerrigan. She is very responive in email and seems incredibly nice. I think putting a face to your name can only be an advantage (unless these things make you very nervous, in which case I would save yourself the nerves)-- AECOM is awesome. I was very close to going there. The area did not seem bad at all when I visited, and the students were incredibly nice and helpful, and the housing is unbeatable:) Good luck

I have to totally disagree Rob. I was born in Einstein, have a mom that works there and spent a summer there. The Area AECOM is in is really not that bad at all. Compared to sleazy areas of the Bronx or even NYC. It is a very easy adjustment to any person native to a big city. It WILL take some getting used to being that there isnt that much in the direct vicinity, but safetywise its perfectly alright. The summer i worked therewas great and i never felt like i had to look over my shoulder. The area has tremendous ethnic diversity which I happen to like very much. Whether it be the Italian Giro stand or the Hispanic bodega the area has an interesting feel.

congrats on ur interview! i know what you're sayin, and that's why i said that i wasn't sure about einstein's neighborhood. there are definitely nicer parts of bronx: e.g. riverdale. however, around the neighborhood where i went to school and along the bus route that i took home it was not nearly nearly nearly as friendly. then again, i was also in high school and high schoolers start a lot more **** than adults do.

how big of a deal is it to re-schedule an interview at aecom? they state that one can only do so in case of an emergency. is this really true? a work-related obligation just came up on my interview day that i cannot miss.

I'm not 100% sure about rescheduling but all I can say is that my experiences with the admissions office have been very pleasant. What bad can come if you ask to reschedule? (assuming this is something to push off a medical school interview for)

thanks for the insight. i ran some scenarios and figured out that i could take a midnight greyhound to an eastern time zone city a few hours away, and then catch a redeye flight into laguardia at 8:05 AM. not fun, but it may work. the only remaining issue is:

on a weekday, is it feasible to get from laguardia at 8 AM to aecom's admissions office by 9 AM?

That simply depends on how you are getting there.
If by public transport - HECK NO!!!!
    If by cab - YES

the reason for the huge difference in time is easily noticeable by looking on a map. La Guardia is right near the northern edge of queens. The bronx is just over the bay on the north side. By car it shouldn't take more than 30min. Public buses dont really run from la guardia to the bronx, and the subway would have to take you through manhattan. It would be a large headache.hope that helps a bit

thanks. i took a look at the google map. man, this'll all add at least $150 to the interview cost, and my "hotel" is going to be a greyhound bus. i must be nuts.

Lived there for over 20 years, and even worked at Jacobi (across the street from AECOM). Many people make the blanket statement that the Bronx is bad. I think like anywhere else, there are good parts and parts where it would be wise for you to visit. In my opinion, AECOM is not in a bad area.

On how many different threads do i need to emphasize that AECOM is NOT in a bad neighborhood. it's Deja vu all over again!

    Hey all,
I just received an interview from AECOM. They say the earliest date I can interview is Nov. 1, and stated that I can pick other dates that fit in with my schedule. Can someone who has visited the campus describe whether it is nice or not? Are the buildings modern or traditional? What are the students like? Any information would be great. Thanks a bunch.

The campus is really nice and easy to navigate. I don't know what the difference between modern and traditional buildings are, but the buildings were nice too and they are renovating some stuff. The students were really enthusiastic, happy, and easy to talk to. The only advice I have is to bring comfortable shoes because you may have to walk a bit to your interview location. My interview was in Jacobi hospital so I had to walk from the campus to the hospital (less than 5 min, but my feet still hurt from the tour and everything) The interview was conversational mostly but with some direct questions. Definitely be prepared with questions of your own about the school. Anyway good luck! :luck:

Even by cab dont risk it. The traffic in NYC, especially during rush hour is very unpredictable. When dealing with it, its always best to give yourself much more time than you think. I have driven the same route in 15 minutes one day that took an hour on another.

I had an interview at the AECOM campus and I know about a dozen people in the school. It takes some time to get from their in to Manhattan (45min), but everyone there is very happy. Its a very friendly place, and the neighborhood is not bad at all. The immediate neighborhood is a bunch of brick houses, and its right off pelham parkway which has a nice strip of grasss (for what that's worth). I don't know about the rest of the Bronx, but apparently they have a lot of option in terms of community work there.

How could you go to an interview if you have been traveling all night? Wouldn't it be easier for you to stay over by one of the students? AECOM is very accomodating in that way.
