AECOM Service and Research Scholarship

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know anything except that I also got that email today! I hadn't even received my acceptance letter via snail mail yet, but did that that email...I searched for it on their website but didn't find anything. I'm sure that the letter that they are mailing out on Jan 31 will have more information?

Ditto! I was pretty shocked, especially since all my research (and by all, I mean "not really that much") is clinical.

yeah, should be exciting to figure out what this scholarship is... anyone from last year's app pool have any info about it?

I didn't get any email, but I was just wondering-does it say that you received the scholarship, or that you can apply for it?
I received an acceptance letter already, so I guess I won't be getting this email now.

It says "nominated" and under "consideration" for and that they're sending a form...So I'm guessing its an application process?:

Congratulations on your recent acceptance!

This email comes to notify you that the Admissions Committee has nominated you for consideration for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Service and Research Scholarship and will be sending you an application on January 31st.

The form will be sent to the same address as your acceptance letter, unless we hear otherwise from you. All documentation must be received not later than March 15th and award letters will be mailed on April 15th.

On behalf of the Committee, I extend to you my sincerest congratulations and best wishes.

Thank you.

Dean Kerrigan

to the people that received this scholarship email--did you apply to mstp or just regular md?

Does anyone know if this scholarship only applies to those who were accepted during the first round? I just interviewed there on Monday (1/24), so I am wondering if I can even be considered...

I was regular MD...I highly dobut that it would be limited to those just in the first round of acceptances...I will definitely post something as soon as I get my letter...which will be mailed out jan 31, I think....I might consider calling but I'm trying hard to play catch up with a lot of other stuff right now, sorry...

bump, seeing as this was mailed out yesterday...just wanted to remind people that had received it faster than others due to their lucky location in nyc (barring the weather, ha ha)

Alright: "I invite you, together with a small group of incoming students, to apply for the AECOM service and research scholarship...recognizing those who have showed a storng sense of dedication to community, whether it be at a school, a shouse of worship, a neighboorhood or somewhere very far from home...Admissions Committee will review all applications and make a recommendation for a handful of substantive awards that will enable students to select a course of study in medicine that is unencumbered by financial constraints...I congratulate you on your many achievements and your excellent academic record"
Dean Purpura

So, how many people are applying for how many awards of how much? Very vague to me...

Hey I got the letter today too! a pleasant surprise since I didn't get the email and was not expecting the application. did anyone else get it even though they didnt get the email?

So the app asks for two LORs--can't they just use the ones from our regular MD app? The committee packet from my school already included like 5 letters and I don't have anyone else to ask. Should I just have two of the same ones sent in for this? 😕

Yes, I think my letters will at least be from the same people. One or both of them might include changes that focus more on my service and research but then again the original letters focused on that as well...b/c they are assets when we apply to med school, you know? Anyway, it would be nice if they just used the same letters...I wonder what the details of the award are lol!

they have to keep us in suspense! same here about the letters; I have one letter entirely focused on service from a community service activity and another one focused entirely on research from my lab. I don't think they would need to change anything from the original letters. I was thinking maybe they could address it to AECOM specifically instead of just med school in general, but it would be hard for me to get in contact with one of my letter writers...

Definitely...I'm not going to be able to get in contact with both of the writers most likely...I don't think/hope it will be that big a deal

Has there been any updated news regarding this information? I know a few of us SDNers were invited to apply...I'm going to try to get mine mailed out before the 11th even though we have until the 15th...I wonder if they will take the full month to let us know--and whether it will be by email or snail mail! This scholarship would REALLY make my decision easy! I liked AECOM a lot when I was there!!!

Did anyone have the nerve to call and ask how much substantive means or how many people are asked to apply. I was feeling special about Pitts untill I found out everyone was asked to apply.

I was kinda wondering this too... any new details come up???

I was told that substantive could mean anywhere from 10k to full. Anything would be nice. I'd like to know my chances 😉

Did you guys receive a letter from the financial aid office, saying that the maximum annual scholarship is now $3,000? Is this only for financial aid apps, or does it apply to the Service and Research Scholarship as well?

im like 99.8% sure its jsut for fin need...
i hope we find out ab the good stuff soon 😉

news: (not really news because it just confirms the status quo, but if you guys heard this id wanna hear...so i will share)

I wrote an email requesting an address change and asking if the letters would still be SENT on april 15....this was the response relating to those inquiries

"We will send to the address you gave. And yes, we still plan on April
15th as the date you will hear."

So if we are to HEAR the 15th....ok i'm reading into this too much!!!

Lol, I thought the same thing when I read that. hmmm...We'll hear by the 15th? I think they'll send the letters out on the 15th, but who knows. thanks for the info!

I got my award letter today, but it is dated April 10, 2005. I live in New York, I guess it got here faster than they thought it would... Anyway, I'm really excited and wish everyone else good luck.

Is anyone going to the informal revisit they're having on April 17/18th?? If so, I'll see you there.

Congrats! How "substantive" was the amount?

Congrats loudawg and 1111gal! I got mine on Saturday and I'm really excited too! 😎

LOL, I just realized that and cleared it out. thanks!

Was there a form or something that we have to send back for the scholarship? On the letter it says to notify them of your intentions in writing by april 25, but all I have is that award letter and a return envelope...did I lose something or are we just supposed to write them our own letter?

No, there was no form in my envelope either, I think we just write our own letter. Do you think it needs to be postmarked or arrive by the 25th? I hope it's postmarked because I haven't sent it in yet.

probably post marked since they didn't specify. I haven't sent mine yet either. I'll try to get it postmarked tomorrow!

I wrote my own letter too. I figure they mean postmarked. Are ya'll accepting?

I'll be accepting... I'm curious though how many of us there are and I feel weird asking anyone at Einstein. I met two other recipients (I'm asuming one was sunsweet) at the revisit plus 1111gal so that makes 4 including me that I know of but I'm sure there could be more... Oh well, looking forward to meeting everyone!

I accepted also. I missed the revisit weekend but I am going back May 5-8 to check everything out. Do any of you live in NYC?

I wasn't at the revisit so that makes 5 that I know of so far if you met 2 and 1 was sunsweet (thats 3 + benjii)...I don't know how I feel about sharing my scholarship status with the rest of the class once I get to AECOM...not sure how much I want to be identified off of sdn haha...What do you all think about that? Also, no, I don't live in NYC...

Yeah, I feel the exact same way. I'm gonna keep my mouth shut unless someone outright asks... no reason to bring it up. I'm from NY but not the city.
