I completed Bachelors in Dental Surgery(BDS) from India last year and had applied to UPenn, BU and NYU for the DDS program. Due to a low NBDE Part 1 score (87%) I'm unable to get an admission into any of these.

Just wanted advice if pursuing the AEGD program from NYU will better my chances to get into the DDS program next year. Is the AEGD program worth considering to give me an edge over other candidates to get an interview call?

Appreciate any suggestions/comments - quicker the better!

hi amruta, i also graduated last yr from india. i would say, he AEGD will definitely improve ur chances of getting into dda or dmd. it will do a whole lot of good to ur CV. so go ahead and apply for it. for more info go to ADEA.org. and search for aegd.

Before going in for any program, I would check if it is CODA approved.

anything that will improve your CV will help....
some states will even allow a 2 year AEGD or GPR to count....most still want ADA approved degree... some states will only accept Amer grads to AEGD/GPR programs...
web sites you were giiven are good....
I am at the ADEA meeting now and there is a new section on foreign grad programs.

It certainly won't harm your application to have done an AEGD. But the thing is this, I think the program in one of NY schools for foreign grads is tuition based- you have to pay them money. I dont recommend that. A better choice would be to get into one where you get paid. and it is not very hard to get into one of those, they are not very competitive (depending on the program). Your best bet would be to participate in the MATCH and try to land a spot in a vacant position post-match ( in a program that accepts foreign grads), also consider GPR programs, there are more of those anyways and they usually pay more.
Try this link to look for those kind of programs and find out their specific requirements.
